NAK Technical Information - Lip Material

It is important to consider the environment in which a seal will operate when selecting the sealing element material. The most important factors are:

  • Temperature
  • Medium being sealed
  • Pressure
  • Shaft speed

The table below provides general information to help select the compound according to their physical properties.

Physical properties of four major compounds

Compound Nitriles
(code N)
Poly Acrylates
(code P)
Silicone
(code S)
Fluoro Rubber
(code V)
Temperature Range -40oC -30oC -50oC -30oC
