| Multiple belts stretch unequally |
- Misaligned drive
- Debris in pulleys
- Broken tensile member or cord damaged
- Mismatched belt set

- Realign and retention drive
- Clean pulleys
- Replace all belts, install properly
- Install matched belt set
|
Single belt, or where all belts stretch evenly |
- Insufficient take-up allowance
- Grossly overloaded or under-designed drive
- Broken tensile members
|
- Check take-up. Use allowance specified in Gates Drive Design Manual (E2/20070)
- Redesign drive
- Replace belt, install properly
